Competition time

To celebrate Earth Day and our Sustainable Travel Assembly on Monday 22 April, we’ve teamed up with children’s book publisher, QuestFriendz, to run a competition for children to use their STEM skills to design their very own sustainable vehicle.

Open to individual children aged 4 to 11 years old and primary schools, the winner will receive a copy of SuperQuesters: The Case of the Angry Sea as well as Katie and Tex soft toys!

The winner’s school will receive a set of the SuperQuesters series for their school library as well as a digital copy of SuperQuesters: The Case of the Angry Sea.

The challenge

The SuperQuesters – Lillicorn, Bea Bumble and Leo Zoom – and their tech loving friends Katie and Tex would like to invent a sustainable vehicle to make travel better for the environment. But they’re struggling to come up with ideas by themselves.

They think the best people to help them are children – like them - who will be the ones travelling in the future.

Tex: “Can you help us with ideas for a new way to travel which doesn’t harm the environment?

Lillicorn: “It could be a new type of car, plane, boat, bus, drone, skateboard, scooter, train, tram or something else!”

Bea Bumble: “To help us build it, please can you label your designs to tell us how it works.”

Katie: “Remember to think about what it is made from, what fuel or power it uses and how it helps us get from one place to another.”

Leo Zoom: “We can’t wait to see what you come up with! And as a thank-you for helping us out, our favourite design will win a copy of the book, SuperQuesters: The Case of the Angry Sea and your own cuddly Katie and Tex. Plus a set of SuperQuesters books for your school library.”

How it works

Please read the terms and conditions below as by entering you agree to these.

To take part, please download the submission sheet for the child to design their sustainable vehicle for the future on here.

The competition is open to all children aged 4 to 11 years old in the UK and Ireland and must be submitted by an adult over the age of 18 years old.

The design can be in any format - whether that’s a computer-generated image or hand drawn.

Please submit your children’s designs using the form here by 23.59 on Friday 10 May 2024.

Designs will be judged by Tech She Can and QuestFriendz, with the winner announced on both our social media channels on Wednesday 5 June 2024.

About the characters

Tex is a robotic dog who features in our series of Tech We Can animated lessons for primary-age children. The animations are designed to educate and excite children about technology, and the people who develop it, from an early age. Each animation covers a different area of tech and gives children a simplified understanding of how it works and how it’s used.

The SuperQuesters are three friends – Leo, Lilli and Bea – who are secret STEM superheroes and feature in the QuestFriendz SuperQuesters book series aimed at children aged 4-9.  QuestFriendz aim to spark children's interest in STEM from a young age through interactive storytelling. You can meet the SuperQuesters characters here. Meet the Characters | QuestFriendz
